Moonshine Still Parts Kits are Here!

Owner of Clawhammer Supply

Wooo hoooo!  We're very excited to announce that our 1, 5, and 10 gallon brewing and distillation "moonshine still" parts kits are ready to order!

How To Make A "Moonshine Still" Video:  Screen Shots

Before we get started, a reminder: Distilling alcohol is illegal without a federal fuel alcohol or distilled spirit plant permit as well as relevant state permits. Our distillation equipment is designed for legal uses only and the information in this article is for educational purposes only. Please read our complete legal summary for more information on the legalities of distillation.

Our 100% copper "moonshine still" parts kits feature all materials and instructions needed for construction of a premium, all copper column still.  We decided to stick with the traditional column still design that we offer for our custom line.  This particular still offers excellent versatility and can be used as highly efficient pot still or can be modified to be used as a true reflux.

All parts are CAD drawn, machine cut & drilled, and guaranteed to fit together perfectly.  All you need to do make some easy bends, hammer some rivets into place, and solder.  We've designed the kits so they can be assembled using only basic tools.  Tools needed to put the kits together include the following: a hammer, a plumbing torch or an electric soldering iron (both available at lowe's), pliers, steel wool or sandpaper, a work table, and a metal backstop (vice, anvil, steel dolly, or a second hammer). To make actual functional equipment, you'll also need a 4' of 1/2" copper pipe (available at any hardware store), two 5/8" hose clamps, and 50' of 1/2" hose (garden hose works, but industrial metal braided hose is preferred).

Some soldering skills are recommended, but not absolutely necessary.  I had never really soldered anything together before making my first moonshine still and managed to figure it out by watching videos just like the how to make a "moonshine still" assembly video series we offer access to with the kits.  The trick to laying a good bead of solder is 1) starting with a tight joint (which we'll ensure by providing precision cut parts) and 2) applying just the right amount of heat (which we'll describe in the video).  It also helps to make sure that the joints are scored with a wire brush or sand paper before flux is applied and the joint is soldered (we'll even pre-score most of the joints).

Our stills can be used for the production of distilled water and essential oils without the need for any federal permits. Production of fuel alcohol requires a federal fuel alcohol permit. They're free and easy to get. Production of distilled spirits requires a federal distilled spirits permit which is only for commercial distillers. It is illegal to distill alcohol at home for consumption. Do not do this Also, each state has its own rules on use and permit requirements. Be sure to research each state's rules and comply with all legal requirements.

  • Thank you for the sensible critique. Me & my neighbor were just preparing to do a little research on this. We got a grab a book from our local library but I think I learned more clear from this post. I am very glad to see such wonderful info being shared freely out there.
