This might be the easiest way to make beer you will find. This Fruit Wheat Beer recipe kit comes with every pre-measured ingredient you need to brew Martin's Strawberry Wheat, a 5-gallon all-grain batch, from grain to glass.

Strawberry wheat is a modern summer beer, not a historical style. The idea is to build a pale, soft base that stays out of the way and let the fruit carry the flavor. Half the grist here is wheat malt, which gives the beer a light haze and a head that sticks around, and the other half is German Pilsner for a clean, cracker-like backbone.

It pours pale gold with a rosy cast and drinks light and gently sweet, with the berry up front and almost no bitterness behind it. One charge of Hersbrucker at sixty minutes keeps the finish from turning syrupy. You add the strawberries yourself during fermentation, so how much fruit ends up in the glass is your call.

A Note On Substitutions

This kit includes Appalachian Wheat Malt in place of the recipe's Wheat Malt, Pale (Weyermann). We stock dry yeast only, so LalBrew Voss Kveik (Norwegian/Kveik) dry yeast stands in for the recipe's Sundew (OYL-401). Not included, add your own: 3 lbs Strawberry.

  • This kit is built for brew-in-a-bag (BIAB), the simplest way to make all-grain beer at home. The basic brew day looks like this:

    1. Heat your water and steep the milled grain to make wort.
    2. Boil the wort, adding the hops on the schedule in the recipe.
    3. Cool the wort down quickly, then transfer it to your fermenter.
    4. Pitch the yeast and let it ferment for about two weeks.
    5. Bottle or keg, wait for carbonation, then enjoy.

That yields roughly 53 bottles of fresh Fruit Wheat Beer. It works great with our digital electric homebrew systems, which hold your temperatures for you, though any kettle and burner will do.

  • This is a recipe kit, so it includes the ingredients only. To brew it at home you will also need:

    • A brew kettle or an electric all-in-one brewing system
    • A grain bag for brew-in-a-bag (or a mash tun for a traditional mash)
    • A fermenter with an airlock
    • A thermometer and a way to chill the wort
    • Sanitizer, and bottles or a keg for packaging
