The Best Electric Brewing System, Now With a Brain

Making beer at home has never been easier because we've taken brew in a bag (BIAB) to a whole new level with this single vessel, turn-key, all grain electric brewing system. This is the same system that made our name, now running our own touchscreen brewing controller. It's a homebrew setup like you've never seen. Not sure what "brew in a bag" is? Read on.

What Is Brew in a Bag?

Old fashioned brewing systems require 2 or even 3 different vessels (pots, pans, kettles, etc...) to make beer. Brew in a bag systems require only a single vessel to brew an entire batch of beer. That's because we've integrated stainless steel grain and hop baskets into the design. They can be removed after use, leaving the precious liquid right where it is. It's called "brew in a bag" or in our case, "brew in a basket."

This design is the new gold standard for home brewing and allows mashing, boiling, hop additions, etc. to be done in the same kettle. For example, once you're done mashing, simply lift the basket, install basket support clips, and allow the grain to drain into the kettle.

Our New Touchscreen Brewing Controller

At the heart of this system is a brewing computer we designed and built ourselves, not a thermostat with a temperature readout. You build the recipe once, send it to the kettle, and the controller runs the whole day: it heats the strike water on a schedule, holds every mash step, detects a real boil, calls out every hop addition by name, times the whirlpool, and hands you a brew report at the end.

Your Water Doesn’t Boil at 212°F

There is a real barometric pressure sensor on the board. The controller works out the boiling point from live air pressure and shows your elevation and "BOILS AT" right on the screen. At 5,000 feet your water boils around 202°F, and the controller knows that. It declares boil at your actual boiling point instead of waiting for a hard coded 212°F that will never arrive. That same reading is the reference when you calibrate your probe, so you're calibrating against the real boiling point of the water in front of you.

Your Recipes, On the Kettle in Seconds

Build a recipe in our own Beer Builder, press send, and it's on the kettle with the mash steps and the hops named. Already use Brewfather? Enter your API key once and your recipes show up in the same list. BeerSmith, Brewer's Friend or anything else that exports BeerXML? Drop the file on the pairing page and it lands on the kettle too. Mash programs, step mashes, hop names and amounts, whirlpool stands and yeast all survive the trip.

It Tunes Itself To Your Kettle

One button auto-tune heats the kettle, learns how it responds, and saves the result. It runs mostly hands off and shows its work while it goes. Two point probe calibration, ice water and a rolling boil, gets your temperatures honest.

Set It and Walk Away

Schedule your start and the controller works backwards to fire the element at the right moment, so the water is hot when you want it. On screen you get a live status word, the measured heat rate and an ETA to target. And if the power drops mid brew, it offers to pick the day back up exactly where it left off, asking first whether the pump should come back on.

It Gets Better Every Month

Signed over the air updates come from our own servers. The controller you buy today is not the controller you'll own in six months, and every update reaches every unit already sold, free.

The Rest of What It Does

  • Full guided brew day: mash, mash out, boil, hop additions, whirlpool, chill, done.
  • Up to 8 mash steps, each with its own temperature, time and optional name.
  • Grain in gate. The kettle heats to strike, holds, and waits for you to say the grain is in before the clock starts.
  • Up to 12 additions per recipe, each named, called out at the right minute by name and amount.
  • Stir all you like. Once a step is at temperature the clock runs to zero.
  • Mid brew editing: add a step, retime the running one, change a future temperature, add or delete a hop. Anything already fired is locked so the day can't be corrupted.
  • 10 recipes stored on the unit, editable right on the screen, and a water and salts sheet on every recipe card.
  • Brew report at the end with run time, peak temperature, energy used in kWh, and a QR code that takes you straight to reordering the kit.
  • Manual mode turns it into a straight temperature controller with a stopwatch, for sous vide, cheese, canning or distilling.
  • Six real brewery sounds, or a classic ding, or silence. Your choice, with its own volume.
  • 800x480 colour touchscreen with brightness control and a 180° flip for wall mounting.
  • Fahrenheit or Celsius everywhere. Clock sets itself from the internet.
  • Probe loss kills the heat, with a three second debounce so a bumped connector can't dump your boil.
  • No app. No subscription. No account needed to brew. Turn the Wi-Fi off and it's still a complete brewing computer.

Why is This Homebrew System Better?

We want you to make professional quality beer with this system. That's why we insisted on using 100% food grade 304 stainless steel for every single component. Though, we want you to be safe too, which is why we use temperature resistant silicone coated handles for safe handling while brewing. We've also built GFCI protection into the system to prevent electrical shock - a feature that is missing from almost every other brew system on the market.

The bottom line is that you'll be able to make better tasting beer, faster and easier than ever. You're welcome.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are the Brewing System Dimensions?

14.5" diameter, 17" tall without lid, 19" tall with lid.

What are the heat up times?

It takes about 60 minutes to heat from ground water temp to mash and 45 minutes to heat from mash to boil. The controller shows you a live ETA the whole way, so you're never guessing.

Is it possible to achieve a vigorous boil on a 120V circuit?

Yes. However, the lid must be used to partially cover the kettle (our extensive testing has shown this does NOT impact beer quality). Also, kettle insulation may be required, depending on elevation. Here's our brew kettle insulation guide.

Do I need Wi-Fi or an account to use it?

No. The controller is fully functional offline. Wi-Fi gets you recipe sync and over the air updates, and you opt in feature by feature. There's no app to install and nothing to subscribe to.

What's the difference between this and the digital controller version?

The kettle, element, pump, chiller and all the stainless are identical. This version replaces our PID digital controller with the touchscreen brewing computer described above: recipe import, guided brew days, the barometer, scheduled start, power loss resume and over the air updates.
