Peach and Apricot • Yuzu and Melon • Built for Hazy and Hop-Forward Beer

Alora is a new aroma hop from Hopsteiner, bred for the soft, fruit-heavy character that hazy IPAs and modern pale ales are built on. It lands in the same part of the hop bill as Citra and Mosaic, but it gets there by a different road: stone fruit and yuzu instead of grapefruit and pine.

Our lot measures 8.8% alpha acid. More than half of Alora's oil is selinene, and it carries about five times the bound 3MH thiol of Cascade, which is where its tropical, juicy side comes from. That thiol is released during fermentation, so Alora added in the whirlpool or during active fermentation tends to show more fruit than the raw pellet suggests.

Flavor & Aroma Profile

  • Ripe peach
  • Apricot
  • Yuzu and bright citrus peel
  • Sweet melon
  • Soft tropical fruit from fermentation-released thiols

A light late addition gives a gentle peach and citrus lift. Heavier whirlpool and dry hop charges push it toward full stone fruit and yuzu, with enough body to carry a hazy IPA on its own.

Brewing Applications

Alora fits best in fruit-forward, hop-driven styles, including:

  • New England IPA
  • Hazy Pale Ale
  • American IPA
  • American Pale Ale
  • Hoppy Wheat Ale
  • Session IPA

It also works as a fruit accent in blonde ales and hoppy lagers, where a single late addition adds peach without much bitterness.

Usage Recommendations

For a 5 gallon batch, use 1 to 2 oz in the whirlpool at 170 to 180°F and 2 to 4 oz as a dry hop. A small addition during active fermentation helps release the thiols. At 8.8% alpha it can bitter, but it is too valuable for that; use a clean bittering hop at 60 minutes and save Alora for the end.

Pair it with Citra or Mosaic for a bigger tropical profile, or with Lemondrop or Motueka to push the citrus side.
