Homebrewing for beginners does not get much friendlier than this. This Belgian Dubbel recipe kit comes with every pre-measured ingredient you need to brew Martin's Belgian Dubbel, a 5-gallon all-grain batch, from grain to glass.
The dubbel took its modern shape at the Westmalle abbey in the 1920s, a dark Trappist ale stronger than a table beer but well short of the tripel. It spread through the Belgian monasteries and their commercial imitators and became one of the anchors of the abbey tradition.
The color runs from deep copper to brown, and the flavor leans on malt and dark candi sugar: raisin and plum with a touch of caramel, and a dry finish that keeps it from turning sweet. Yeast adds a soft spice underneath. It is a beer of depth rather than force.

This kit includes Great Chit in place of the recipe's Carapils®; Crystal 20 in place of the recipe's Caravienne Malt; Wheat Malt in place of the recipe's Wheat Malt, Red (Rahr); Hallertau Mittelfrüh in place of the recipe's Hallertauer Hersbrucker.
