Make taproom-quality beer at home for pennies a pint. This Best Bitter recipe kit comes with every pre-measured ingredient you need to brew Martin's Best Bitter, a 5-gallon all-grain batch, from grain to glass.
Best bitter is the everyday ale of the English pub, poured from the cask at cellar temperature and meant to be drunk by the pint rather than sipped. It sits a notch above ordinary bitter in strength. It pours amber, with a firm bready malt base and enough hop bitterness to stay dry through the finish. Fuggle and East Kent Goldings give it the earthy, slightly floral note that marks the classic English hop.
Balance is the whole point. Nothing dominates, and the beer stays drinkable across a long evening. Maris Otter carries the malt while a small charge of pale chocolate deepens the color without adding real roast.
