Everything you need to brew comes in one recipe kit. This Czech Amber Lager recipe kit comes with every pre-measured ingredient you need to brew Martin's Czech Amber Lager, a 5-gallon all-grain batch, from grain to glass.

Czech Amber Lager, known at home as polotmave, sits between the pale and dark Czech lagers in both color and character. It pours a clear copper to light brown and leads with caramel and gentle toast, the product of Munich and darker crystal malts worked through a decoction mash. Saaz keeps its place, lending a spicy bitterness that cuts the malt sweetness.

Think of it as the middle child of the Czech lineup: more malt complexity than a pale lager, less roast than the dark version, and a smooth, moderately strong finish. It is a style you rarely see outside the Czech Republic, which makes it worth brewing at home.

  • This kit is built for brew-in-a-bag (BIAB), the simplest way to make all-grain beer at home. The basic brew day looks like this:

    1. Heat your water and steep the milled grain to make wort.
    2. Boil the wort, adding the hops on the schedule in the recipe.
    3. Cool the wort down quickly, then transfer it to your fermenter.
    4. Pitch the yeast and let it ferment for about two weeks.
    5. Bottle or keg, wait for carbonation, then enjoy.

That yields roughly 53 bottles of fresh Czech Amber Lager. It works great with our digital electric homebrew systems, which hold your temperatures for you, though any kettle and burner will do.

  • This is a recipe kit, so it includes the ingredients only. To brew it at home you will also need:

    • A brew kettle or an electric all-in-one brewing system
    • A grain bag for brew-in-a-bag (or a mash tun for a traditional mash)
    • A fermenter with an airlock
    • A thermometer and a way to chill the wort
    • Sanitizer, and bottles or a keg for packaging
