Brew great beer at home on your very first try. This American Pale Ale recipe kit comes with every pre-measured ingredient you need to brew

Brew great beer at home on your very first try. This American Pale Ale recipe kit comes with every pre-measured ingredient you need to brew Martin's Dip Hopped Pale Ale, a 5-gallon all-grain batch, from grain to glass.

Dip hopping is a technique borrowed from Japanese brewers: instead of adding aroma hops in the boiling kettle, you steep them in hot wort held below a boil, drawing out bright hop flavor without the harshness high heat can cause. The beer underneath is a straightforward American pale ale, gold and sessionable at under five percent.

The method suits modern varieties, and this recipe leans on Citra, Mosaic, and Simcoe for their mix of tropical fruit and berry aroma. Magnum handles the clean bittering. The result is a soft, aromatic pale that drinks lighter than its aroma suggests.

A Note On Substitutions

This kit includes Crystal 20 in place of the recipe's Caravienne Malt. We stock dry yeast only, so LalBrew BRY-97 (West Coast Ale) dry yeast stands in for the recipe's Northwest Ale (Wyeast Labs 1332).

  • This kit is built for brew-in-a-bag (BIAB), the simplest way to make all-grain beer at home. The basic brew day looks like this:

    1. Heat your water and steep the milled grain to make wort.
    2. Boil the wort, adding the hops on the schedule in the recipe.
    3. Cool the wort down quickly, then transfer it to your fermenter.
    4. Pitch the yeast and let it ferment for about two weeks.
    5. Bottle or keg, wait for carbonation, then enjoy.

That yields roughly 53 bottles of fresh American Pale Ale. It works great with our digital electric homebrew systems, which hold your temperatures for you, though any kettle and burner will do.

  • This is a recipe kit, so it includes the ingredients only. To brew it at home you will also need:

    • A brew kettle or an electric all-in-one brewing system
    • A grain bag for brew-in-a-bag (or a mash tun for a traditional mash)
    • A fermenter with an airlock
    • A thermometer and a way to chill the wort
    • Sanitizer, and bottles or a keg for packaging
