Make your own beer at home and you may never buy a six-pack again. This Doppelbock recipe kit comes with every pre-measured ingredient you need to brew Martin's Doppelbock, a 5-gallon all-grain batch, from grain to glass.
Doppelbock was brewed by Paulaner monks in Munich as a liquid bread to sustain them through Lenten fasting. It is a bigger, richer take on the bock, deep amber to brown, with a heavy malt sweetness that carries notes of toast and dark fruit with a little caramel underneath. Most commercial examples still wear the -ator suffix that traces back to the original Salvator.
This version pushes near nine percent, so the strength is real, but the finish stays surprisingly clean for its size. Northern Brewer and Tettnang balance the malt without drawing attention to themselves.
