Homemade beer, made simple and made fresh. This German Leichtbier recipe kit comes with every pre-measured ingredient you need to brew Martin's German Leichtbier, a 5-gallon all-grain batch, from grain to glass.
Leichtbier is the German take on a light beer: a low-strength, low-calorie lager brewed to keep as much flavor as possible at a fraction of the gravity. At around 3 percent it is lighter than almost anything else in the German canon, yet it still aims for the crisp, hop-touched profile of a pils rather than the watery character the word "light" usually implies.
Pilsner malt and a little biscuit give a lean, grainy base, while a mix of noble and Styrian hops keeps a gentle spicy-floral note through the finish. It is a beer designed for volume and refreshment, and the trick to brewing it well is holding onto flavor when there is so little malt to work with.
