Turn your kitchen into a brewery for an afternoon. This International Dark Lager recipe kit comes with every pre-measured ingredient you need to brew Martin's International Dark Lager, a 5-gallon all-grain batch, from grain to glass.

International Dark Lager is the smooth, gently sweet dark beer sold under national labels from Latin America to the darker export lagers of Europe. Despite the deep brown color, it drinks light. Roast is held back to a hint of cola and dark bread, and with very low bitterness the finish comes across soft rather than dry.

Carafa II supplies the color and a whisper of chocolate without the harsh char of a stout, sitting over a base of Pilsner and Vienna malt. A single restrained charge of Hallertau Mittelfruh keeps the hop presence in the background, which is exactly where this style wants it.

  • This kit is built for brew-in-a-bag (BIAB), the simplest way to make all-grain beer at home. The basic brew day looks like this:

    1. Heat your water and steep the milled grain to make wort.
    2. Boil the wort, adding the hops on the schedule in the recipe.
    3. Cool the wort down quickly, then transfer it to your fermenter.
    4. Pitch the yeast and let it ferment for about two weeks.
    5. Bottle or keg, wait for carbonation, then enjoy.

That yields roughly 53 bottles of fresh International Dark Lager. It works great with our digital electric homebrew systems, which hold your temperatures for you, though any kettle and burner will do.

  • This is a recipe kit, so it includes the ingredients only. To brew it at home you will also need:

    • A brew kettle or an electric all-in-one brewing system
    • A grain bag for brew-in-a-bag (or a mash tun for a traditional mash)
    • A fermenter with an airlock
    • A thermometer and a way to chill the wort
    • Sanitizer, and bottles or a keg for packaging
