A craft beer brewing kit that fits just about any homebrew setup. This Irish Extra Stout recipe kit comes with every pre-measured ingredient you need to brew Martin's Irish Extra Stout, a 5-gallon all-grain batch, from grain to glass.

Irish extra stout is the bigger, bottled cousin of the draught dry stout, stronger and more assertive but built on the same roasted-barley backbone. The added gravity brings a fuller body and a deeper roast, closer to dark chocolate and espresso, while the finish stays firmly dry. This was the version brewers reached for when a beer had to travel or keep.

At six percent it has real presence without tipping into sweetness, the roast and bitterness held in balance by a clean fermentation. Maris Otter and flaked barley give it body beneath the roast.

A Note On Substitutions

This kit includes Magnum in place of the recipe's Target. We stock dry yeast only, so LalBrew Nottingham (English/Neutral) dry yeast stands in for the recipe's Irish Ale (Wyeast Labs 1084).

  • This kit is built for brew-in-a-bag (BIAB), the simplest way to make all-grain beer at home. The basic brew day looks like this:

    1. Heat your water and steep the milled grain to make wort.
    2. Boil the wort, adding the hops on the schedule in the recipe.
    3. Cool the wort down quickly, then transfer it to your fermenter.
    4. Pitch the yeast and let it ferment for about two weeks.
    5. Bottle or keg, wait for carbonation, then enjoy.

That yields roughly 53 bottles of fresh Irish Extra Stout. It works great with our digital electric homebrew systems, which hold your temperatures for you, though any kettle and burner will do.

  • This is a recipe kit, so it includes the ingredients only. To brew it at home you will also need:

    • A brew kettle or an electric all-in-one brewing system
    • A grain bag for brew-in-a-bag (or a mash tun for a traditional mash)
    • A fermenter with an airlock
    • A thermometer and a way to chill the wort
    • Sanitizer, and bottles or a keg for packaging
