Brew your own beer at home without the fuss. This Irish Stout recipe kit comes with every pre-measured ingredient you need to brew Martin's Irish Stout, a 5-gallon all-grain batch, from grain to glass.

Irish stout is the dry stout, the style Guinness built and the one most people picture when they hear the word. Roasted barley is the signature. It gives the beer its black color and tan head, along with a sharp, coffee-like bitterness that dries out the finish. The body is lighter than the color suggests, which is a big part of why it goes down so easily.

At four percent with a firm roast bitterness, this is a classic session stout, dry rather than sweet, with flaked barley adding body and a dense, creamy head. Martin brewed this batch with Des and Steph.

  • This kit is built for brew-in-a-bag (BIAB), the simplest way to make all-grain beer at home. The basic brew day looks like this:

    1. Heat your water and steep the milled grain to make wort.
    2. Boil the wort, adding the hops on the schedule in the recipe.
    3. Cool the wort down quickly, then transfer it to your fermenter.
    4. Pitch the yeast and let it ferment for about two weeks.
    5. Bottle or keg, wait for carbonation, then enjoy.

That yields roughly 53 bottles of fresh Irish Stout. It works great with our digital electric homebrew systems, which hold your temperatures for you, though any kettle and burner will do.

  • This is a recipe kit, so it includes the ingredients only. To brew it at home you will also need:

    • A brew kettle or an electric all-in-one brewing system
    • A grain bag for brew-in-a-bag (or a mash tun for a traditional mash)
    • A fermenter with an airlock
    • A thermometer and a way to chill the wort
    • Sanitizer, and bottles or a keg for packaging
