Your first batch of homebrew is closer than you think. This Kentucky Common recipe kit comes with every pre-measured ingredient you need to brew Martin's Kentucky Common, a 5-gallon all-grain batch, from grain to glass.
Kentucky common was the everyday beer of Louisville and the surrounding region in the decades before Prohibition, a dark, cheap, corn-heavy ale that brewers turned out fast and sold within days. It rarely traveled and left almost no written record, part of why it stayed a local curiosity for so long.
The beer runs dark amber to brown, light in body from the corn, and mildly tart in some accounts from a quick sour mash. Bitterness is low and the finish is easy. This was a beer made to be drunk young and in quantity, not aged or fussed over.
