Silky Mouthfeel • Creamy Sweet Character • Built for NEIPAs and Stouts

Malted Oats bring the smooth, full body that flaked oats are known for, with the added depth that only malting can provide. Floor-malted by Riverbend Malt House from Brooks oats, a high-protein variety developed in North Carolina, this malt delivers the signature silky texture behind hazy IPAs and rich stouts.

With a color of 3.0 to 4.0 SRM and a minimum extract of 58% (about 27 PPG), Malted Oats contribute gentle creamy sweetness and a slightly earthy note while doing their real work on mouthfeel. The high protein content builds a dense, stable haze and a soft, pillowy body that unmalted flakes cannot quite match.

Flavor & Aroma Profile

  • Creamy, rounded sweetness
  • Soft oatmeal and porridge notes
  • Slightly earthy, rustic undertone
  • Silky, full mouthfeel
  • Dense, lasting haze in hop-forward styles

Used in moderation, Malted Oats smooth out a beer without stealing the show. The flavor stays subtle while the texture transforms.

Brewing Applications

Malted Oats are a natural fit for any style that leans on a soft body, including:

  • New England IPA and Hazy Pale Ale
  • Oatmeal Stout
  • Sweet and Dry Stouts
  • Saison and farmhouse ales
  • American Wheat and session ales

They also work in whiskey and genever washes, where the oat character carries through distillation.

Usage Recommendations

Use 5 to 20% of the total grain bill. At the low end you get improved head retention and a rounder texture; toward 20% the silky mouthfeel and haze become a defining feature of the beer.

Unlike flaked oats, Malted Oats come with the hull intact, which aids lautering and reduces the chance of a stuck sparge in oat-heavy grists.
