Brew a great beer at home, even if it is your very first. This Munich Dunkel recipe kit comes with every pre-measured ingredient you need

Brew a great beer at home, even if it is your very first. This Munich Dunkel recipe kit comes with every pre-measured ingredient you need to brew Martin's Munich Dunkel, a 5-gallon all-grain batch, from grain to glass.

Munich Dunkel is the malty dark lager that was the everyday beer of Munich long before pale helles took over. Munich malt is the heart of it, kilned to bring out crust-of-bread and light toast flavors, with just enough dark malt to push the color toward deep chestnut. There is no real roast; the darkness reads as bread and caramel rather than coffee.

At under five percent it stays sessionable, finishing clean and dry so the malt never turns cloying. Biscuit malt adds a dry, cracker-like edge, and Perle and Tettnang keep the hopping in the background.

  • This kit is built for brew-in-a-bag (BIAB), the simplest way to make all-grain beer at home. The basic brew day looks like this:

    1. Heat your water and steep the milled grain to make wort.
    2. Boil the wort, adding the hops on the schedule in the recipe.
    3. Cool the wort down quickly, then transfer it to your fermenter.
    4. Pitch the yeast and let it ferment for about two weeks.
    5. Bottle or keg, wait for carbonation, then enjoy.

That yields roughly 53 bottles of fresh Munich Dunkel. It works great with our digital electric homebrew systems, which hold your temperatures for you, though any kettle and burner will do.

  • This is a recipe kit, so it includes the ingredients only. To brew it at home you will also need:

    • A brew kettle or an electric all-in-one brewing system
    • A grain bag for brew-in-a-bag (or a mash tun for a traditional mash)
    • A fermenter with an airlock
    • A thermometer and a way to chill the wort
    • Sanitizer, and bottles or a keg for packaging
