Real beer ingredients, one recipe, zero guesswork. This Piwo Grodziskie recipe kit comes with every pre-measured ingredient you need to brew Martin's Piwo Grodziskie, a 5-gallon all-grain batch, from grain to glass.

Piwo Grodziskie, known in German as Gratzer, is Poland's lost native style, brewed for centuries in Grodzisk Wielkopolski from a single ingredient: oak-smoked wheat malt. Production ended under state control in the 1990s, and the beer survived only because homebrewers and a few revivalist breweries refused to let it go.

It is pale, dry, sharply hopped, and heavily carbonated, with a woodsmoke aroma sitting over a very light body. Poles sometimes called it their champagne for the way it fizzes and refreshes. At around three percent it is one of the most distinctive low-strength beers there is.

A Note On Substitutions

This kit includes Smoked Malt in place of the recipe's Oak-Smoked Wheat. We stock dry yeast only, so SafAle K-97 (German Ale / Kölsch) dry yeast stands in for the recipe's German Ale (Wyeast Labs 1007).

  • This kit is built for brew-in-a-bag (BIAB), the simplest way to make all-grain beer at home. The basic brew day looks like this:

    1. Heat your water and steep the milled grain to make wort.
    2. Boil the wort, adding the hops on the schedule in the recipe.
    3. Cool the wort down quickly, then transfer it to your fermenter.
    4. Pitch the yeast and let it ferment for about two weeks.
    5. Bottle or keg, wait for carbonation, then enjoy.

That yields roughly 53 bottles of fresh Piwo Grodziskie. It works great with our digital electric homebrew systems, which hold your temperatures for you, though any kettle and burner will do.

  • This is a recipe kit, so it includes the ingredients only. To brew it at home you will also need:

    • A brew kettle or an electric all-in-one brewing system
    • A grain bag for brew-in-a-bag (or a mash tun for a traditional mash)
    • A fermenter with an airlock
    • A thermometer and a way to chill the wort
    • Sanitizer, and bottles or a keg for packaging
