Go from grain to glass right in your own kitchen. This Saison recipe kit comes with every pre-measured ingredient you need to brew Martin's Saison, a 5-gallon all-grain batch, from grain to glass.

Saison began as a farmhouse beer of Wallonia, the French-speaking south of Belgium, brewed through the cooler months and stored for the seasonal farm workers who drank it across the summer harvest. There was never one fixed recipe. Each farm brewed to what it had, so the name describes a season and a purpose more than a formula.

What the style shares is dryness. The beer finishes crisp and lightly peppery, with a fruity, spicy character that comes from the yeast rather than the hops. Pale gold and heavily carbonated, it was built to refresh after a day in the field. This version keeps the bitterness modest and leans on Styrian Goldings and an assertive Belgian saison strain to carry the spice.

  • This kit is built for brew-in-a-bag (BIAB), the simplest way to make all-grain beer at home. The basic brew day looks like this:

    1. Heat your water and steep the milled grain to make wort.
    2. Boil the wort, adding the hops on the schedule in the recipe.
    3. Cool the wort down quickly, then transfer it to your fermenter.
    4. Pitch the yeast and let it ferment for about two weeks.
    5. Bottle or keg, wait for carbonation, then enjoy.

That yields roughly 53 bottles of fresh Saison. It works great with our digital electric homebrew systems, which hold your temperatures for you, though any kettle and burner will do.

  • This is a recipe kit, so it includes the ingredients only. To brew it at home you will also need:

    • A brew kettle or an electric all-in-one brewing system
    • A grain bag for brew-in-a-bag (or a mash tun for a traditional mash)
    • A fermenter with an airlock
    • A thermometer and a way to chill the wort
    • Sanitizer, and bottles or a keg for packaging
