An easy beer recipe that delivers every single time. This Belgian Pale Ale recipe kit comes with every pre-measured ingredient you need to brew Martin's Trappist Pale Ale, a 5-gallon all-grain batch, from grain to glass.

Belgian pale ale is what people around Antwerp actually drink day to day, the low-key relative of the big abbey and Trappist beers. It sits near table strength, pale gold to light amber, with a soft malt base and just enough yeast character to read as Belgian: a little fruit, a faint spice, nothing that pushes the malt out of the way.

Saaz keeps the bitterness low and herbal, and a portion of oats and wheat rounds out the body. At a shade over 5 percent it drinks like a session beer, poured in pints rather than sipped from a snifter over a long evening.

  • This kit is built for brew-in-a-bag (BIAB), the simplest way to make all-grain beer at home. The basic brew day looks like this:

    1. Heat your water and steep the milled grain to make wort.
    2. Boil the wort, adding the hops on the schedule in the recipe.
    3. Cool the wort down quickly, then transfer it to your fermenter.
    4. Pitch the yeast and let it ferment for about two weeks.
    5. Bottle or keg, wait for carbonation, then enjoy.

That yields roughly 53 bottles of fresh Belgian Pale Ale. It works great with our digital electric homebrew systems, which hold your temperatures for you, though any kettle and burner will do.

  • This is a recipe kit, so it includes the ingredients only. To brew it at home you will also need:

    • A brew kettle or an electric all-in-one brewing system
    • A grain bag for brew-in-a-bag (or a mash tun for a traditional mash)
    • A fermenter with an airlock
    • A thermometer and a way to chill the wort
    • Sanitizer, and bottles or a keg for packaging
